The UK has recently become the epicenter of forward-thinking metalcore bands, and DURENDAL is no exception. Their debut EP from The Coming Strife is unique in its fantasy themes: “Durendal” is the name for a legendary sword from eleventh century French literature, and vocalist Will McLaughlan screams lyrics like “Countless battles fought for honor and blood.” Yet this EP is no less heavy, combining chunky metalcore breakdowns with melodic death metal chugging and a variety of vocal styles, including post-hardcore clean singing. An incredible and promising debut.
